Annual Report 2024-25
Dear Brewster Community,
It is with heartfelt thanks that I reflect on the many ways your generosity shaped the 2024-25 year at Brewster. Your belief in our mission has once again translated into extraordinary opportunities for our students and strengthened every facet of our community.
Because of you, The Fund for Brewster reached new heights, fueling essential investments in our people, campus, and programs. Your gifts—whether unrestricted or directed to athletics, the arts, student scholarships, or other priorities close to your heart—have an immediate and lasting impact on our students’ daily experiences.
This year, your philanthropy came to life in visible, inspiring ways. The renovation and repair of Brown Field provided a first-class turf surface that has already elevated play, training, and school spirit. Faculty housing upgrades will provide our hardworking, devoted faculty with modern, comfortable spaces in which to live and grow. And the ongoing stewardship of our stunning lakeside campus continues to draw admiration from visitors who, time and again, tell us how quickly they can picture themselves—or their children—becoming part of this special place.
Your gifts made lasting impacts in more private ways, too. Thank you to so many of you who directed your contributions to need-based student scholarships. Your support transformed lives and opened doors, and the impact of your giving will be felt for years to come as these students make their mark on the world.
We see your impact in moments large and small: students taking the field with pride, faculty gathering in refreshed spaces to prepare for classes, and prospective families who are inspired by what they see and feel here. These experiences are possible because you choose to invest in Brewster.
As we look ahead, we are excited to continue building on this momentum. Your support ensures we can provide an exceptional education, foster a vibrant community, and maintain a campus environment that reflects the excellence of our programs and the spirit of our people.
On behalf of the entire Brewster community, thank you for making this an extraordinary year. Your support empowers us to dream boldly and act decisively for the benefit of every student.
With gratitude,
Kristy Kerin

A Year of Impact
Welcome to Brewster Academy’s Annual Report. You and others in the wider community who love the Academy have given of yourselves often and generously. We are thrilled to share the stories that capture your support.
Admissions
Brewster Academy continues to excel in the competitive boarding school landscape by preparing diverse thinkers for lives of purpose through its signature Brewster Model of team-based, personalized learning, and a vibrant lakeside campus experience. This year, our Admission team welcomed 121 new students from 18 U.S. states and 19 countries, a class whose breadth and energy reflect Brewster’s global reach and inclusive spirit. To build this dynamic cohort of thinkers, dreamers, and doers, our counselors traveled widely, recruiting in Mexico, China, Germany, Bermuda, and Japan, among other key markets, while strengthening partnerships with key independent counselors at home, partly due to our involvement with the Granite 5 group of boarding schools in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region.
Donor generosity made these achievements possible: Gifts supporting facilities like the Rogers building, innovative programs such as robotics and advanced arts, and endowed scholarships all serve as powerful magnets for prospective families. Equally vital are our Gold Key student tour guides, many of whom attend Brewster thanks to donor-funded aid. Their authentic voices and lived experiences embody our mission and provide visiting families with a compelling glimpse of what it means to live and learn with purpose on Lake Winnipesaukee. Our Gold Keys are already buzzing about how future students will benefit from our academic courtyard renovation project, that has just broken ground this fall.
Advancement & Alumni
FUNDRAISING
The Brewster community extends a heartfelt thank you to each donor for the impact you made in FY25. You helped surpass our Fund for Brewster goal, you helped grow Brewster’s endowment, you allowed the Academy to move forward with upgrades and updates for faculty housing, and you supported several other capital projects.
One of those capital projects was Brown Field, AKA “The Turf.” Brown Field is one of the busiest spots on campus, and it was due for a refresh to ensure safe and smooth games for years to come. Thanks to generous donors and hard work from the Operations team and their vendors, the project was completed in just two weeks immediately after our 2025 Commencement. Why the tight schedule? The field had to be ready for busy summer programs, especially sports camps that rent Brewster’s fields throughout the summer.
EVENTS
Throughout last fiscal year, our Advancement team continued to reach out and connect with alumni. The Bobcat Open golf tourney, Winni Chase Regatta, Winni Classic alumni hockey game, and Reunion 2025 all brought alumni back to campus. We hosted alumni gatherings in cities including Boston, New York, and Stowe (Vermont), to name a few locations. Alumni are welcome on campus almost anytime—just reach out for a visit!
Thank you to EVERY donor for supporting this special place in Wolfeboro…and the students who thrive here.
Summertime Is Busy Time!
The summer proved to be a very busy time at Brewster. Our annual Royal Thai Scholar program continued to run for the length of the summer, and we also hosted three other academic camps in June and July. More than 1,000 campers attended our 15 sports camps, and our two craft fairs and three concerts brought countless others to campus for shopping and some of the best live music in the Lakes Region. In total, we hosted 17 major special events, including several weddings with alumni choosing to celebrate marriages and honor loved ones at our Pinckney Boathouse, the Grayson Student Center, and our waterfront fields. While all of our events and camps kept campus full of energy, our Facilities and Housekeeping teams worked incredibly hard to renovate and improve our dozens of dorms, faculty houses, and other buildings.
If you are interested in hosting any events during the summer at Brewster, please contact Christine Brown and Matt Butcher at summer@brewsteracademy.org
Immersive and Global Programs
Brewster students continued to immerse themselves in educational opportunities outside of the traditional classroom, particularly during our Interim Studies period after the Winter Trimester. Brewster 9th graders continued their annual tradition of travel to Cádiz, Spain, for 10 days of cultural exploration, traveling throughout the region each day and homestaying with local families each night. This past year, Brewster added a global travel opportunity for upper school students, as 11 students traveled France (Arles and Paris) for a 13-day trip that mixed academic study, language immersion, and regional exploration.
We love these smiles from the inaugural Brewster group to travel to Arles, France for an incredible language and cultural immersion.

Interim Studies offered more than a dozen opportunities for students to immerse themselves in study. They engaged in a range of activities, including earning their avalanche safety certification in Yellowstone National Park, sailing the Florida Keys, attending Space Camp, and learning about the Civil Rights movement in Alabama.
On campus, students enjoyed a variety of creative learning activities, including ceramics, cinematography, cooking, photography, woodworking, and children’s book writing. Students also had the opportunity to learn about gender equity in sports, explore the real estate industry, learn how to build drones, complete STEM projects, and deliver engaging TED talks. Whatever the activity, students learned from experts in the field—including trustees and alumni—and how to apply their learning in authentic ways.

Teacher of the Year
Brewster history faculty and department chair Jonathan Browher was named the 2025 New Hampshire State History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History! A teacher for 14 years at Brewster, Browher is known for inspiring students to dive deep into history, think critically, and create their own meaning . This recognition is a proud moment for Browher and for Brewster.
Curvey Scholars Shine
Brewster’s Curvey Scholars always shine bright at Brewster, but this year they took to the podium at Commencement and the Ivy Address: Randall Preston ’25 (right), from Alton, N.H., and Logan Cliche ’25, also from Alton, N.H., earned salutatorian and valedictorian, respectively. The Curvey Scholar Program awards four-year scholarships to deserving students in the Lakes Region. Randall also will continue to represent the program and Brewster as a Villanova Curvey Scholar as he embarks on his college journey.
EYBL Competes in Chipotle National Tournament
Our National Basketball team competed in the premier Nike EYBL Scholastic League for the second year in a row and earned the Brewster’s first spot in the Chipotle National Tournament. The team made it to the Final Four game and just missed out on the championship game by a buzzer beater, ultimately finishing the year ranked the third best team in the nation.
Inspiring Senior Speak
Joey Schmidt ’25 entered his senior year with a 200-ton Captain License after completing a 70-day “Sea-mester” through the University of South Florida. Not only did he present his experience in a “Senior Speak” to the student body, but he put his experience to use when he climbed aboard the M/S Mount Washington and had a turn behind the wheel on Lake Winnipesaukee in the spring.
Will Brochu ’26 Named U.S. Senate Youth Delegate
Will Brochu ’26 was selected for the prestigious U.S. Senate Youth Program. As one of only two New Hampshire honorees, Will earned a $10,000 college scholarship and a week-long immersive trip to Washington D.C. During his week in D.C., Will had the opportunity to meet with senators, cabinet officials, and the U.S. Vice President. He continued pursuing his passion in government with a summer internship with New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte.
Making Bobcat History in Poetry Out Loud
Hannah Ruegg ’26 took her place in Bobcat history for earning the highest rank in our long relationship with the national Poetry Out Loud competition. After winning the school competition, she advanced through Regionals and ultimately finished second in the state as New Hampshire’s State Alternate for the national competition.
Teamwork Takes the Spotlight
In February, students and faculty premiered their musical performance of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Students filled multiple lead roles while others designed the set, created the magic behind the scenes, and turned their months of hard work into a great show for the school community and families.
Varsity Golf Claims Third Straight MAISAD Title
Brewster’s Varsity Golf team continues to be a beacon of excellence for athletics, winning the MAISAD Championship for the third year in a row. Coached by Byron Martin, these golfers continued to impress with their golf skills and character alike.
Brewster Scores Double Gatorade Recognition
Brewster proudly saw two Bobcat New Hampshire Gatorade Player of the Year recognitions. Ebuka Okorie ’25 earned the honor for Boys’ Basketball, and Lauren Christy ’25 achieved it for Girls’ Soccer. Watch both Bobcats continue their athletic careers at Stanford University and Syracuse University, respectively.
NBA Star Donovan Mitchell ’15 Honored at Hall of Fame
Brewster’s prolific alum Donovan Mitchell ’15 had another standout year in the NBA (All-NBA First Team, All Star Selection), but even more special was his return trip to campus for the 2025 Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony. In his speech, he said: “Being able to be class prefect at Brewster is really what I model my life around the most,” citing that much of his success was rooted in the lessons he learned at Brewster and the faculty who helped him here.

Stories of Gratitude
Each year in our Annual Report, we talk with members of the Brewster family who understand the school’s vision and share a passion for supporting that vision. This year, our conversations with members of the Vaughan family inspired this touching Donor Spotlight.
The Vaughan Scholarship
The Burtis F. Vaughan Jr. Scholarship is a testament to the lasting impact of Burtis F. Vaughan Jr., who was the headmaster from 1959 to1965. The scholarship not only provides financial support, but connects the recipient with the values and legacy of the man it honors. Logan Cliche ’25, a four-year recipient of the Vaughan Scholarship, is a prime example of this meaningful connection. His academic journey at Brewster Academy, supported by this scholarship, reflects the school's commitment to developing well-rounded students who excel both in and out of the classroom. The relationship between the scholarship’s benefactors and recipients fosters a sense of community and shared purpose, extending the impact of the financial aid into a personal and lasting mentorship. We spoke to Cliche and Mr. Vaughan’s daughters to get a sense of what this legacy means to them personally.
“Our dad had such a following in his day,” shared Janna (Vaughan) Kasarjian ’65, “Being the principal’s/headmaster’s daughter was actually fine because he was so well-liked and excellent at what he did. He was and still is especially remembered for his teaching years. He respected his students as they did him, taught with energy and finesse, and was especially skillful at engaging them.”
Speaking for herself and sister, Jo Anne (Vaughan) Landry ’62, Janna continued, “Those of us who remember him as a teacher, coach, or principal are now diminishing. Unfortunately, many are no longer with us. But those who continue to remember him fondly, often remind me of their good memories and their wish to keep his legacy alive, and the Vaughan Scholarship fund continues to do that. It’s a way to ensure that the past respect for education at Brewster and beyond continues into the present.”
“This wish for connection has especially been realized by the fact that the Vaughan Scholarship’s 2025 recipient, Logan Cliche, will be continuing his education at Columbia University, our father’s alma mater.”
Logan excelled at Brewster, ending his four years here as the Valedictorian for the Class of 2025. “I cannot imagine, cannot create for myself, cannot even begin to develop the notion of a world in which a Brewster education was not a formative part of my experiences of life, joy, and the seeking of knowledge, an experience only made possible through the Vaughan Scholarship,” Logan shared recently. “The Vaughan Scholarship, through its aid in helping me maintain a Brewster education, has allowed me to develop into a diverse thinker prepared for a life of purpose outside the confines of Brewster. I now attend Columbia University, the same institution that Mr. Vaughan attended in his formative years, and in this way I feel a deep-seated connection, not just to Mr. Vaughan, but to his generous gift to Brewster that allowed me to reach the place where I am today. Without Brewster, and without the Vaughan Scholarship, my life would be so deeply altered as to be unimaginable, and, as such, I deeply value the Vaughan family’s contribution to my education as I move forward into the world.”

“As I get older, the more I appreciate my time at Brewster. I realize how privileged I was to have the opportunities and experiences at our school. By giving, I can help students get one step closer to recognizing their potential and change their lives for the better.”
